Privacy Policy
Appstafarian Limited ("Appstafarian", "we", "us", or "our") operate the Gerty for iOS application ("Gerty", or "app"). Gerty is an eBook reader and reading journal for iOS. Any information collected and submitted using Gerty on iOS and other devices or platforms is described in this document.
General
Gerty does not require a user account to operate and as such does not transmit or disclose any user data with us with the following exceptions. To provide a better user experience and functionality, the app may be set up to use services from third parties. These services are described below and are subject to their own privacy policies.
Dropbox
In order to access your books easily and sync data across devices you may link Gerty to your Dropbox account.
- Gerty uses Dropbox's APIs and infrastructure to handle logins and file transfers. As such, neither we nor the app have access to your Dropbox username and/or password, or your files.
- Gerty scans the contents of your Dropbox to list files of the EPUB file type.
- EPUB files are only downloaded upon your explicit request and never automatically uploaded.
- If sync and backup is enabled, Gerty will automatically upload your journal entries, notes, photos, tags, bookmarks and book locations to your private "sandbox" directory in your Dropbox account for your other devices to access them. We do not have access to this information.
- This functionality is turned off by default and you may unlink Gerty from Dropbox or disable syncing at any time.
- Dropbox have their own, independent privacy policy and we have no responsibility or liability for their activities.
Other third party links and content
When using Gerty you may optionally access websites and/or other services such as diagnostics services, online text translation tools, and online encyclopediae. These services have their own privacy policies and we have no responsibility or liability for their activities. Such services include:
- Some eBooks may contain links to websites and other services.
- While you are reading a book or performing other activities in Gerty you may perform lookups to websites and other services such as encyclopaedia and translation lookups.
- Optionally, you may configure Gerty to use the services of other apps installed on your device (e.g. dictionary apps, posting to Facebook or Twitter).
- When you set up your device you may have enabled sending diagnostics usage to Apple. If you opted to share this information with "App Developers" some of this information may be made available to us to improve Gerty and troubleshoot problems. This setting may be turned off from the Settings app of your device.
- Sift uses Flurry to collect crash reports, and usage information such as how many people are actively using it.
- Sift uses Flurry in "basic" mode (without logging special events). Flurry may use "session identifiers" to identify unique installations of the app but do not collect personally identifiable information.
- Sift uses Flurry with the secure transport setting enabled (SSL).
- Sift uses Flurry to collect crash reports, and usage information such as how many people are actively using it.

Children
In order to enhance your reading experience, Gerty allows you to access external web content. As such the app is rated 17+ on the App Store. We never collect or maintain information from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of the app is designed or structured to attract anyone under 13.
